Muscovy Ducks It started as a response to a free to good home notice. A lady had a pair of muscovies given to her and wanted to give them away when her circumstances changed suddenly. Jack and his mate Jill, were about 18 months old at the time, probably born in 2001. She had no idea she was giving away such good birds. Jack and Jill dutifully multiplied, and provided us with beautiful pure whites. But, knowing how gorgeous they were because I had had them as a child, I wanted to get some colours. A friend told me her next door neighbour had a spare blue drake. He arrived in a big cardboard box, and I named him Gainsborough. Gainsborough was attacked by a dog and killed. But he had time to pass on his genes, and produced four coloured ducks, a black and white pair that almost match, and two blue and white females.
All these ducks have had ducklings and there are several colour variations. I now have nearly pure colours are as well as coloured and white in good proportions in bronze, blue, black and white, as well as lacing in all colours. I am working on size and breeding for show and meat. All the animals are fed using organic produce with no additives. This formula has been very successful in the past and the birds are healthy and good layers.
Elizabeth Ducks I thought the Elizabeth ducks were really beautiful. They were an Australian breed. They had a great personality and were as intelligent as Muscovies. Brownie was hatched in 2003, and he was the first to arrive. He was joined by a young pair, nearly one year old in 2005. The female is an outstanding duck, having won numerous prizes. The male has been second to her every time they have been exhibited in show. We regularly have ducklings for sale, contact Rochelle directly with enquiries.
Silver Bantam Ducks
These little ducks were given to us by friends. There was a male too, but he was kept for a while because his plumage was more 'interesting' and by the time our friends lost interest, he had 'escaped'. They are very sweet and quiet little birds; ideal for town dwellers.
